BS in Business Administration from Kaplan University
Degree Description: Kaplan University offers students a degree program that will successfully mold students into some of the nation’s leading managers and business leaders. Throughout the curriculum, students will develop strong critical thinking and communication skills, will learn a variety of business foundations including the applications and processes of finance, accounting and human relations, and will build strong business management skills. Students are required to take 33 credits in general education coursework such as English, social sciences, physical sciences and humanities. To obtain a business administration degree specifically, students are required to take 88 credits of major coursework that will strengthen their business administration skills. Classes will include marketing, corporate finance, business law, and human resource management just to name a few. A total of 180 credits are needed to earn this degree. The cost is $371 per credit. Full-time students pursing this program usually take about two to three years to earn the degree.
Degree Outlook: While smaller businesses and organizations may only require an associate degree to hold a managerial position, larger companies require a bachelor’s degree for top-level, high-salaried positions. Bachelor’s degree holders typically are employed as higher-level administrative services managers working for large contract, insurance, and regulatory compliance corporations and companies. While the job growth is expected to grow about the same rate as all other occupations, about 12 percent, those pursing this degree need to be aware that job competition is fairly high for top-level positions, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s not to say there won’t be any available opportunities. In fact, according to the Bureau, 32,300 new jobs will be added to the market during the next decade. While salary can vary depending on place of employment, administrative services managers earned between $52,240 and $98,980 in 2008, according to the most recent statistics available from the Bureau.
